In the late summer of 2021, the life of a young woman full of promise was tragically cut short in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. Karli Asti Short, a 26-year-old female, was discovered on the morning of September 13, 2021, the victim of a fatal gunshot wound to the head. At the time of her death, Karli was five months pregnant, eagerly anticipating the arrival of her first child, a son, who was to be born in February 2022. Her untimely death sent ripples of grief through her community and left her family, including her father, former NFL linebacker Brandon Short, devastated.
The investigation into Karli's death soon focused on a person of interest, and in December 2021, an arrest was made. Isaac Buchanon, also referred to as Isaac Smith, was taken into custody and charged with criminal homicide and the homicide of an unborn child. Authorities alleged that Buchanon was the father of Karli's unborn baby. The motive behind the tragic event, as presented by investigators, was his desire to avoid the responsibilities of fatherhood. It is believed he lured Karli to the location where her body was later found and shot her.
