In the early morning hours of January 26, 2014, in Philadelphia, the life of 23-year-old Kyleaf Gordon was tragically cut short. Just before 2 a.m., the sound of gunfire echoed on Ridge Avenue near Page Street. When police responded to the reports, they discovered Gordon collapsed on the street with gunshot wounds to his head and back. He was rushed to Temple University Hospital, but his injuries were too severe, and he succumbed to them just fifteen minutes after his arrival.
The investigation into the shooting led police to a suspect. In March of that same year, authorities arrested Shafik Lamback, a 20-year-old man from the Overbrook section of the city. Lamback was subsequently charged with the murder of Kyleaf Gordon and other related offenses. At the time of his arrest for the homicide, court records indicated that Lamback was already facing a trial for a separate drug case and had a history of prior arrests for robbery, assault, and gun-related crimes. The motive for the shooting was not immediately released by officials.
