Quron Williams, a 19-year-old male from Philadelphia, died on April 9, 2016, after an encounter that began on the 5700 block of Park Avenue in the Fern Rock area of North Philadelphia. Police said the incident unfolded around 2:20 p.m. when Williams allegedly robbed an elderly man at gunpoint. At that same time, off-duty Philadelphia SWAT Officer Erik Bullock, described in reports as a 19-year police veteran, was nearby and saw what was happening.
According to the police account reported
by local news outlets, Bullock identified himself as an officer and ordered Williams to drop his weapon. Investigators said Williams did not comply and instead pointed a gun toward Bullock. Bullock opened fire, and Williams ran from the scene. During the pursuit, police said Williams fired at the officer, and Bullock fired again. The chase ended when Williams collapsed from his wounds.
Williams was taken to Einstein Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The elderly robbery victim was also treated at a hospital, though reports did not describe life-threatening injuries. The case was framed by police as an officer-involved shooting that occurred during an armed robbery intervention rather than as a search for an unknown suspect.
