On a late Tuesday night in June of 2016, the life of 31-year-old Keith Coleman, a Black male, was tragically cut short in the Perry South neighborhood of Pittsburgh. Just before the stroke of midnight on June 7th, the sound of gunfire shattered the evening's quiet on the 300 block of Kennedy Avenue. When the first responders arrived, they discovered Coleman lying in the street, having sustained at least one gunshot wound.
Investigators believe that Coleman was driving through the area
when he was shot. In the chaotic moments that followed the shooting, his vehicle struck four parked cars before coming to a final stop. Paramedics rushed him to Allegheny General Hospital, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival. The incident was part of a wave of violence that plagued the North Side that year, which saw a significant number of fatal shootings.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, police, with the assistance of a K-9 unit, conducted a thorough search of the area surrounding Norwood and Kennedy Avenues. They were looking for two men who were believed to be the suspects in Coleman's death. However, the search did not lead to any immediate arrests, and the individuals they were seeking were not found. The case remained under investigation as authorities appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the apprehension of those responsible for this violent act.
