On the evening of March 3, 2024, in the Allentown neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 20-year-old Marquese Lamar Freeman was fatally shot inside Adan's Market on East Warrington Avenue. The incident, which also left two other individuals wounded, unfolded at approximately 7 p.m.
Surveillance footage from within the market captured a man, later identified as 20-year-old Quincey Gurske, entering the store with two companions. Shortly after, Freeman entered the market.
The footage then shows Gurske allegedly opening fire on Freeman. Freeman attempted to retreat to the back of the store and drew his own firearm, firing at one of Gurske's associates. Another individual with Gurske also reportedly fired at Freeman, who then collapsed inside the store from multiple gunshot wounds to his head and chest.
A man who was with Freeman was struck in the arm by the gunfire and was later found by first responders near the intersection of Arlington Avenue and William Street. A 17-year-old, believed to have been with Gurske, was discovered on Dilworth Street with gunshot wounds to his hip and nose.
The investigation led police to identify Gurske as the primary suspect. He was seen on surveillance footage at the market wearing a distinctive outfit, including a red shirt, gray sweatpants, and red or pink shoes. Police later found Gurske at the Dilworth Street location where the injured 17-year-old was, and he was reportedly wearing the same clothes, though he attempted to cover them with a windbreaker. A subsequent search of the residence on Dilworth Street uncovered clothing matching the description, some with bloodstains, and a loaded Glock.
On March 18, 2024, Quincey Gurske was arrested as he arrived at Pittsburgh Municipal Court for a hearing on an unrelated charge. He has been charged with a number of offenses, including criminal homicide, criminal attempted homicide, aggravated assault, robbery, and firearms violations. Gurske is currently being held in the Allegheny County Jail. The shooting at Adan's Market has also brought scrutiny upon the establishment, with community leaders calling for its closure due to a history of violent incidents.
