On November 27, 2016, 16-year-old junior firefighter Parker Hess was fatally shot inside the Republic Volunteer Fire Company in Redstone Township, Pennsylvania. Hess, a sophomore at Brownsville Area High School, had been passionate about firefighting from a young age, even saving up to purchase his own helmet.
