In the winter of 2017, the life of 24-year-old Lavell Beason was tragically cut short in a fatal shooting in Erie, Pennsylvania. On the evening of January 23rd, Beason was sitting in a car on East 22nd Street when he was shot. He was rushed to a local hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into Beason's death led police to a startling discovery: the individual responsible was a 14-year-old boy named Keyon Lucas. The motive and the circumstances that brought the teenager and Beason to that fateful encounter on East 22nd Street were not immediately clear, but the event sent shockwaves through the community due to the young age of the perpetrator.
Keyon Lucas, who is now 18, was charged with homicide, becoming the youngest person in Erie County to face such a charge. The case proceeded through the legal system, and Lucas was ultimately convicted for the killing of Lavell Beason. In August of 2020, he was sentenced to serve 20 to 49 years in prison for the crime. Following his release from prison, Lucas will also be subject to four years of probation.
