Jose Arenas Jr., a 38-year-old Hispanic male, was fatally shot in Erie, Pennsylvania, on the evening of Friday, November 8, 2019. The incident occurred in a west Erie neighborhood where Arenas was reportedly loading tires into a vehicle. His death was officially ruled a homicide.
Following an investigation by Erie Police, a suspect was identified and apprehended. Michaelqueurice G. Page, who was 27 at the time, was arrested in connection with the shooting.
Investigators determined that the homicide was the result of a robbery.
Page was subsequently charged with a number of serious offenses, including criminal homicide, murder in the first degree, murder in the second degree, robbery, aggravated assault, and several firearms violations. The evidence presented during the legal proceedings indicated that Page had shot Arenas during the course of a robbery.
Ultimately, Michaelqueurice G. Page was convicted on charges of second-degree murder, robbery, and aggravated assault. In May of the following year, he received a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole for the second-degree murder conviction. He was also given additional, consecutive sentences for the robbery and aggravated assault charges, ensuring he would serve a lengthy prison term.
