Patrolman Richard John Burchick, aged 39, of the Erie Police Department in Pennsylvania, tragically lost his life on February 5, 1991. He succumbed to gunshot wounds sustained during a foot pursuit of a drive-by shooting suspect. The incident occurred at the intersection of East 21st Street and East Avenue. Burchick had served with the Erie Police Department for four years and was survived by his wife and children.
The suspect involved in the shooting was convicted of third-degree murder.
