In February of 2017, the life of 32-year-old Britteny Kyle was tragically cut short in Boswell, Pennsylvania. A certified nurse's assistant known for her fun-loving personality and perpetual smile, she was a graduate of Berlin Brothersvalley High School where she had been active in the band. Those who knew her recall her love for tanning, going to the beach, being outdoors, and spending time with her beloved cats.
Her life, however, ended in a violent encounter that would lead to a lengthy legal process for her family and friends.
The circumstances of her death unfolded when she went to the home of her ex-boyfriend, Jamie McVicker, to retrieve some of her personal effects. Accompanied by another man, the situation escalated dramatically as they were attempting to leave. It was then that McVicker opened fire on the vehicle as they drove away. The male victim, who was on the phone with 911 at the time of the shooting, was grazed by a bullet. Britteny Kyle was struck in the neck and succumbed to her injuries.
Following the shooting, McVicker fled the scene but was apprehended by law enforcement in Conemaugh Township. He was subsequently arrested and faced a trial for his actions. In May of 2018, a jury found him guilty of third-degree murder in the death of Britteny Kyle. The legal proceedings continued with his sentencing and a subsequent appeal. Initially handed a significant prison sentence, the term was later reduced after a Superior Court review. Despite the legal battles and the passage of time, the memory of Britteny Kyle and the tragic end to her life remains a painful chapter for those who knew and loved her.
