Damien Staniszewski, a 19-year-old male from Johnstown, PA, tragically died on March 28, 2017. His death was part of a double homicide case involving James Smith, a 32-year-old male. Both victims were believed to have stolen drugs and money from a stash house operated by the East Main Money Gang , an Ohio-based gang. The gang members tracked down Staniszewski and Smith, kidnapped them, and subjected them to severe physical abuse before ultimately shooting them to death in the woods near Ligonier Pike in Somerset County.
The investigation into their deaths led to multiple arrests and legal proceedings. Samson Washington and Marekus Benson, both members of EMMG, were found guilty of first-degree homicide, aggravated assault, kidnapping, and other charges. They received life sentences for their roles in the killings. Additionally, Devon Wyrick was sentenced to 21 to 80 years in prison for his involvement. Other individuals, including Joshua Bergmann and Deandre Callender, were also charged and faced legal consequences for their participation in the crime.
The case highlighted the violent and dangerous nature of drug trafficking operations and the severe consequences that can result from such criminal activities. The successful prosecution and sentencing of the involved gang members brought a measure of justice to the families of the victims.
