On a summer evening in Philadelphia, the life of 21-year-old Dymir Hawkins-Williams was tragically cut short. On July 10, 2019, on the 6100 block of Callowhill Street, the young Black male was caught in a hail of gunfire. Philadelphia Police officers responded to the scene at approximately 10:29 p.m. to find two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.
Hawkins-Williams was discovered on the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds.
He was rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center for treatment but ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Another man, Joshua I. Williams, 30, was also killed in the incident. Just before the shooting, around 10:30 p.m., Hawkins-Williams had a seemingly routine phone call with his mother before he went outside with friends. It was then that he was caught in the deadly crossfire.
The case of Dymir Hawkins-Williams's death remains an unsolved homicide. The Philadelphia Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and has offered a reward of up to $20,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction. No suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the murder.
