In the evening hours of a summer day in Philadelphia, the life of Fahim Abdul-Raheem, a 48-year-old Black male, was brought to a sudden and violent end. On July 15, 2019, Abdul-Raheem was on the 7400 block of Devon Street in the city's Mt. Airy neighborhood. Witnesses observed him pacing up and down the street while talking on his phone, a seemingly ordinary moment that preceded a tragedy.
Around 9:27 p.m., the sound of gunfire shattered the evening's calm. When Philadelphia Police officers arrived at the scene, they found Abdul-Raheem suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He had been struck in the head, chest, and wrist. Emergency responders rushed him to Albert Einstein Medical Center, but his injuries were too severe. He was pronounced dead at 9:46 p.m., less than twenty minutes after the shooting.
The investigation into the homicide remains ongoing, as the case is still unsolved. Law enforcement officials have released a limited description of the person they believe is responsible for Abdul-Raheem's death. The shooter is described as a Black man with a thin build, standing between 5 feet 5 inches and 5 feet 6 inches tall. The Philadelphia Police Department continues to seek assistance from the public, urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward as they work to bring closure to the case.
