In the late summer evening of August 12, 2019, 40-year-old Kelly M. Kearn, a female, met a tragic and untimely end in the parking lot of the Regal Harrisburg Cinemas in Susquehanna Township, Pennsylvania. The events of that night unfolded as a premeditated act of violence orchestrated by her estranged husband, 50-year-old Julian Kearn. The couple, who were separated, had arranged to meet, arriving in separate vehicles.
The meeting in the cinema parking lot, however, was a fatal setup.
According to authorities, Julian Kearn had lured his estranged wife to the location with the intention of killing her. His chilling intentions were reportedly foreshadowed on his social media, where he had indicated he was 'going to go out on his own terms.' In a final, tragic act, Julian shot Kelly and then turned the gun on himself, ending his own life. The movie theater was operational at the time of the incident, but fortunately, no one else was physically harmed.
The investigation that followed confirmed the incident as a murder-suicide. Dauphin County District Attorney Fran Chardo stated that Julian Kearn's actions were clearly intentional. Prior to the murder-suicide, in May of the same year, Julian Kearn had pleaded guilty to a harassment charge in Cumberland County, although it was not publicly confirmed if this charge was directly related to his estranged wife. The community was left to mourn the loss of Kelly, a woman described as a kind and beautiful soul, whose life was cut short in a devastating act of domestic violence.
