On October 20, 2020, a 24-year-old mother of four, Kyra Lee Macon Haley, was shot and killed in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. In the early morning hours, at approximately 1:40 a.m., a neighbor reported hearing a gunshot and a scream coming from the residence Kyra shared with her estranged husband, Dallas Haley, and their children. When police arrived at the Rumson Drive home, they discovered Kyra unresponsive on the floor, bleeding from a gunshot wound to her left shoulder.
A gun was found on the floor near her.
The investigation revealed that the couple, who had married in 2016 and were separated due to his abuse, had been arguing that night. The argument escalated, and Dallas Haley retrieved a loaded handgun. In an act of intimidation, he fired a single shot that struck and fatally wounded his wife. Kyra had a protection order against him at the time of her death. A 2014 graduate of the Dauphin County Technical School's law enforcement program, Kyra was remembered by loved ones for her infectious smile and the joy she brought to others.
Dallas Haley was subsequently arrested and charged with his wife's murder. On January 24, 2022, then 28-year-old Dallas Haley pleaded guilty to third-degree murder. He was sentenced to serve 20 to 40 years in a state correctional institution for the killing of his wife.
