In February 2020, the life of Jeremy Dentel, a 28-year-old male employee of PNC Bank and a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, was tragically cut short in his Baldwin home, a suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His death, later determined to be a homicide, was discovered on Sunday, February 16, 2020, when police were dispatched to his residence for a wellness check.
Upon arrival, they found Dentel deceased from a single gunshot wound to the head.
The investigation into Dentel's death quickly uncovered his final communications. Detectives utilized his iPad, which mirrored the activity on his missing iPhone, and discovered he had been in contact with a man named Adam Rosenberg. The two had connected on a dating app called 'Find Men' on February 12. Text message exchanges revealed that Rosenberg persistently pushed to meet Dentel, who seemed hesitant. After numerous messages from Rosenberg on Saturday, February 15, Dentel eventually relented and agreed to have him over. This communication was the last contact Dentel had.
Investigators were able to piece together a timeline of the crime. Surveillance footage from a neighbor's home captured a man, believed to be Rosenberg, arriving at Dentel's house on the evening of February 15. The video showed the man entering the home and then leaving hurriedly just 50 seconds later, running to his car and driving away. At the scene, police recovered a crucial piece of evidence: a 9mm shell casing near Dentel's body. After identifying 21-year-old Adam Scott Rosenberg as the primary suspect, a search warrant was executed at his Fox Chapel home. There, authorities found ammunition that was identical to the casing discovered at the crime scene.
Adam Rosenberg was arrested and charged with criminal homicide. As the investigation continued, it was discovered that Rosenberg was also responsible for the death of another man, 22-year-old Christian Moore-Rouse, who had been missing since December 2019. In June 2022, Rosenberg pleaded guilty but mentally ill to two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of both Jeremy Dentel and Christian Moore-Rouse. He was subsequently sentenced to two consecutive life sentences in prison without the possibility of parole.
