On January 31, 2016, Bruce Kelley Jr., a 37-year-old African American man, died in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, after being shot by Port Authority police officers during a confrontation that escalated from a public drinking violation. Kelley Jr. and his father, Bruce Kelley Sr., were approached by officers for consuming alcohol in a gazebo along the East Busway. The situation escalated into a physical altercation, during which Kelley Jr. fled the scene armed with a folding knife.
