In the late summer of 2020, a domestic dispute tragically escalated into a fatal act of violence, claiming the life of 39-year-old Ismail Lewis, a male resident of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The events leading to his death began on the morning of September 2, 2020, following an altercation with his girlfriend, Shnasia Peterson. After the argument, Peterson contacted a friend who connected her with Mason Quailes.
Quailes, along with his friend Marcus Garner, both armed with handguns, went
to Peterson's home. There, Peterson disclosed that she had the PINs for Lewis's bank cards, and the three devised a plan to assault Lewis and steal his cards to divide the money amongst themselves. Quailes and Garner then proceeded to Lewis's residence on North Front Street in Steelton. When their attempt to rob him was met with resistance, the situation turned violent. They pistol-whipped Lewis before shooting him multiple times. Of the six shots fired, five struck Lewis, with the fatal bullet piercing his heart and left lung. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
In the months that followed, investigators identified the individuals involved. On December 22, 2020, arrest warrants were issued for Mason Quailes and Shnasia Peterson on charges including first and second-degree murder and robbery. Quailes was already incarcerated on unrelated charges. Peterson was believed to have fled the area.
Ultimately, justice was served in a court of law. In August 2021, Shnasia Peterson pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including homicide. Later, in October 2022, a Dauphin County jury convicted Mason Quailes and Marcus Garner of second-degree murder, burglary, and criminal conspiracy to commit burglary. Both men were subsequently sentenced to life in prison for their roles in the death of Ismail Lewis.
