Having spent a significant portion of his childhood in the foster care system, moving through approximately 30 different homes, Demarao was on the verge of being adopted by Shaquille Moore. He was looking forward to officially joining his new family, which already included five siblings. His biological family, including his parents Hermenia Puglia and Demarao A. Gumby Sr., also mourned his loss.
Known for his love of video games and spending time with friends, Demarao had just celebrated his 15th birthday on May 31st. His family remembered him as a loving and protective presence. In the aftermath of the shooting, his loved ones organized two GoFundMe campaigns to help with funeral expenses.
As of the latest available information, the investigation into the shooting is ongoing. Law enforcement officials have encouraged anyone with information to come forward. At the time, no arrests had been made and no suspects had been publicly identified in connection with the death of Demarao Alexander Gumby Jr.
