In the early morning hours of April 1, 2021, the life of 16-year-old Chaynce King-Henderson was tragically cut short in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The young man was fatally shot around 1 a.m. in the 2200 block of Berryhill Street. The incident occurred in the backyard of his grandmother's home, from where he ran into a neighbor's yard before collapsing. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Chaynce was a 10th-grade student at SciTech and held a job at Hershey Park.
He had a passion for music, particularly rap, and had aspirations of becoming a rapper, having already recorded in a studio. Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, he attended Faith Deliverance Church in Harrisburg. His story was later featured in a documentary titled 'Our Boys,' which focused on the impact of gun violence in the city.
The investigation into the death of the male teen led to an arrest months later. On August 12, 2021, Harrisburg Police took 15-year-old Kaewon Kashif Layton into custody. Layton was charged as an adult with first-degree murder, third-degree murder, and several firearms offenses in connection with King-Henderson's death. He was subsequently held in the Dauphin County Prison without bail.
