On the evening of New Year's Day in 2019, a burst of gunfire shattered the peace in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, claiming the life of 26-year-old Laquan Clark. A Black male known affectionately to friends and family as 'Popcorn,' Clark was a passenger in a vehicle that had stopped in the 200 block of North 14th Street at around 6:10 p.m. It was then that a second vehicle pulled up behind them, and multiple shots were fired into the car Clark occupied.
The driver of the vehicle, though also
struck by gunfire, managed to speed away from the scene and head directly to Harrisburg Hospital. Clark, however, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The driver's injuries were described as minor. The incident was investigated by Harrisburg Police as an apparent drive-by shooting. Neighbors reported hearing more than 10 shots, and the exchange of gunfire was believed to have been between two vehicles in the vicinity of Walnut and 14th Streets. The shootout also resulted in multiple houses in the area being struck by bullets.
Laquan Clark was born on March 11, 1992, and had attended Harrisburg High School. He was remembered by his family as a fun-loving man who cherished spending time with his loved ones. The investigation into his death was ongoing, with police appealing to the public for any information regarding the incident. Dauphin County Crime Stoppers offered a reward of up to $2,000 for information that would lead to a successful prosecution in the case. As of the latest available reports, no arrests have been announced in connection with the murder of Laquan Clark.
