On the evening of October 8, 2020, Andre Blackshear, a 56-year-old male, was fatally shot in the Logan section of Philadelphia. The incident occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. on the 4500 block of North 13th Street. Blackshear had driven to his fiancée's home when he was shot 15 times, reportedly over a dispute about a parking space. His fiancée was inside her home and was alerted to the tragedy by the sound of gunshots.
When she went outside, she discovered Blackshear's empty car with its passenger window shattered.
Andre Blackshear was transported to Albert Einstein Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Known as a peacemaker in his community, he was remembered by loved ones for his advocacy for education over violence. He had a passion for sports, having run track and played football in his youth, and was a dedicated fan of the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Philadelphia Police Department opened an investigation into the homicide. As of March 2021, the investigation was still ongoing, and no arrests had been made in connection with the shooting. A reward of up to $20,000 was offered for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Andre Blackshear's death. There have been no subsequent public announcements regarding any suspects, arrests, or charges in the case.
