In a quiet New Castle, Pennsylvania neighborhood, the evening of May 12, 2021, was shattered by violence that left two residents dead and another seriously injured. John Charles Micco, a 78-year-old male, was found deceased in his home, the victim of a tragic and unexpected series of events that began with a dispute between neighbors.
The incident unfolded at a duplex on Dewey Avenue. Police were initially called to the scene for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered a man, later identified as a neighbor, suffering from gunshot wounds. As they investigated the scene, their attention was drawn to the adjoining residences of the duplex.
Inside one of the units, officers found Margaret Esposito deceased. In the neighboring unit, they discovered the body of her landlord, John Charles Micco. The suspect was quickly identified as Margaret's 59-year-old son, Louis Vincent Esposito, who lived with her. He was found hiding in the basement of Micco's home and was taken into custody.
During questioning, Esposito confessed to the killings of his mother and Micco, as well as the shooting of the other neighbor. He was subsequently charged with two counts of criminal homicide, one count of attempted homicide, and one count of attempted escape after he tried to flee the police station by pulling a fire alarm. Reports from the time of the incident suggested that the motive may have been linked to jealousy Esposito felt towards Micco. He was reportedly stressed and felt his landlord was doing a better job of caring for his mother than he was.
