In the late hours of a Monday night in the East Germantown section of Philadelphia, a dispute between two employees at a neighborhood bar tragically escalated, leaving one man dead. Forty-four-year-old Christopher Michael Johnson, the manager of Sharon's Little Spot Bar, was fatally shot on January 16, 2017. The incident, which shattered the ordinary routine of the establishment on Boyer Street, began as a verbal argument between Johnson and the bar's security guard.
The disagreement
reportedly moved from the main bar area to a back room, where it turned into a physical altercation. It was in this private space that the security guard, identified as 28-year-old Edward Morgan, drew his weapon. Morgan, who was armed and in uniform, fired multiple shots, striking Johnson twice in the torso and once in the leg. Despite the severity of his injuries, Johnson was still conscious and able to speak with police when they arrived at the scene just before 11 p.m.
Paramedics rushed Christopher Johnson to a nearby hospital, but he succumbed to his wounds a short time later. In the immediate aftermath, investigators began questioning witnesses, including a female bartender and a customer who were present during the incident. Edward Morgan was taken into custody and subsequently charged with murder and related offenses in connection with the death of his manager. The motive for the argument that led to the fatal shooting was not immediately clear to authorities.
