Death by Force

On July 13, 2023, 37-year-old José Alberto Almonte was fatally shot while working at the Jefferson Food Market, located at the intersection of 29th and Jefferson Streets in Philadelphia's Brewerytown neighborhood. Almonte, a husband and father of four, was stocking shelves around 6:30 p.m. when two masked men entered the store. At least one of the assailants fired multiple shots, striking Almonte in the neck. He was pronounced dead at the scene by responding medics.
