Officers rushed him to Temple University Hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he did not survive.
The investigation into the
shooting would eventually uncover a sinister plot that extended far beyond this single act of violence. Philadelphia Police detectives worked the case for over a year, and their efforts culminated in the arrest of a suspect on Wednesday, June 10, 2020. The individual taken into custody was identified as 25-year-old Steven Williams. Further investigation by law enforcement revealed a chilling motive behind the murder of Leslie Carroll and several other victims.
Authorities announced that Williams was operating as a contract killer, taking money in exchange for ending lives. His arrest was connected to a string of four homicides that occurred between September 2018 and May 2019, with Leslie Carroll being the final victim in this deadly series. The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office charged Williams with four counts of murder and related offenses, stating that he had collected thousands of dollars for carrying out these killings. Following his arrest, the case against Williams proceeded through the legal system. He eventually pleaded guilty to three counts of murder and conspiracy to commit murder. For his role in these calculated and heartless killings, Steven Williams was sentenced to a prison term exceeding 40 years.
