In the early afternoon of Sunday, October 3, 2021, a burst of gunfire shattered the quiet of a North Philadelphia neighborhood. When police responded to the 4500 block of North 17th Street at 12:43 p.m., they found a young man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was identified as Tamir Aubrey Simpson, a 20-year-old Black male who resided on Rowan Street in Philadelphia.
He was a family-oriented young man, described by his mother as a 'big kid at heart' who was not involved in street life.
Paramedics rushed Tamir to Temple University Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. For eleven days, medical personnel fought to save his life. Despite their efforts, Tamir Aubrey Simpson succumbed to his injuries on Thursday, October 14, 2021.
The Philadelphia Police Department is actively investigating the homicide of Tamir Aubrey Simpson. To date, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The case remains open, and authorities are urging anyone with information, no matter how small, to come forward to help bring justice for Tamir and his grieving family. His mother expressed that her son did not deserve his fate and that the family is still seeking justice.
