On the evening of February 2, 2023, a 17-year-old Black male named Isaiah Odom was fatally shot in his South Philadelphia neighborhood. The teenager had left his home on Titan Street to get something to eat on his bike. At approximately 8:33 p.m., on the 1200 block of South 23rd Street, the young man was ambushed in what police have described as a targeted attack.
According to law enforcement and witness accounts, a gray sedan pulled up alongside Isaiah as he was riding his bike.
Two gunmen exited the vehicle and began firing at him. At least 20 rounds were discharged during the assault. Video footage of the incident reportedly showed the assailants chasing Isaiah on foot and continuing to shoot at him. The chase ended with the gunmen standing over Isaiah and shooting him at point-blank range.
Philadelphia Police officers responded to reports of a person with a gun and discovered Isaiah lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds. They transported him to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, no arrests were made, and no weapons were recovered from the scene.
Isaiah's mother mentioned that he had been involved in a fight at South Philadelphia High School prior to the shooting and had subsequently been threatened. Fearing for his safety, she had recently unenrolled him from the school. He was scheduled for an orientation at a new school, One Bright Ray Community High School. His family and friends described him as a caring individual who loved music. The investigation into the death of Isaiah Odom remains ongoing, and as of the latest available information, no suspects have been publicly identified or arrested in connection with his murder.
