On the evening of April 4, 2023, a violent outburst of gunfire shattered the night on the 3400 block of Rorer Street in Philadelphia's Kensington neighborhood. Inside a garage, 39-year-old Christian Figueroa, a Hispanic male, was with four other men when chaos erupted. Three assailants, their faces obscured by masks and armed with semi-automatic handguns, entered the garage and opened fire.
The attack was swift and brutal, leaving a scene of carnage in its wake.
When Philadelphia Police officers responded to the call at 10:38 p.m., they discovered Figueroa inside the garage, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his face, head, and chest. Medical personnel arrived shortly after but were unable to save him, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene. The four other men, ranging in age from 27 to 32, were also shot and were transported to Temple University Hospital. Two were in critical condition, while the other two were stable.
Investigators believe the shooting was a targeted attack and that Christian Figueroa was the intended victim. The sheer violence of the act was evident from the more than 50 spent shell casings recovered from both the sidewalk and the interior of the garage. Law enforcement is hoping that surveillance footage from cameras in the vicinity will aid in identifying the three gunmen who fled the scene.
As of now, the case remains an open investigation. No arrests have been made, and the Philadelphia Police Department continues to seek information from the public that could lead to the apprehension of the suspects responsible for Figueroa's death and the wounding of four others.
