On the evening of November 26, 2021, the day after Thanksgiving, 29-year-old Andrew J. Stengel, a White male, left his home in the Mount Airy section of Philadelphia. As he approached his truck parked on the 7100 block of Ardleigh Street, he was ambushed and tragically shot multiple times. An off-duty police officer who was driving home discovered Andrew on the ground and immediately rendered aid until other officers arrived.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival. The shooting marked a grim milestone for the city as its 501st homicide of the year.
Andrew was remembered by his family and friends as a warm, generous, and fun-loving young man with a passion for travel, Eagles football, and animal rescue. He was known for his kind and generous spirit, always willing to help those in need and caring for many adopted animals over the years. His passing left a profound void in the lives of those who knew and loved him. In his memory, a charitable foundation was established in his name with Solutions for Animals to continue his passion for animal rescue.
The investigation into Andrew's death is ongoing, and police believe he was the intended target of the shooting. Surveillance footage from that night shows a person of interest pacing back and forth in front of Andrew's home, seemingly waiting for him to come outside. The individual even approached a window to look inside. When Andrew went to his truck, the person walked up behind him and shot him five or six times before fleeing the scene.
To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Andrew Stengel. The case remains unsolved, though investigators have stated they believe it has a high solvability factor and that they are close to finding who is responsible, but require more information. His family, in their search for justice, has contributed significantly to a reward fund. A substantial reward of $100,000 is being offered for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for his death. His father has also put up billboards across the city to bring visibility to the case, hoping that someone with information will come forward.
