On the evening of March 4, 2023, 14-year-old Anthony Pinkney was fatally shot in Philadelphia's Overbrook neighborhood. At approximately 8:26 p.m., while walking with friends along the 6000 block of Haddington Lane, a rapid succession of gunfire erupted. When the shooting ceased, Anthony was found lying in the street, having sustained two gunshot wounds to his chest. He was immediately transported to Lankenau Hospital, where he was pronounced dead around 9:30 p.m.
Anthony resided on South Cecil Street in Philadelphia's Kingsessing neighborhood. He was an eighth-grade student at Excel Middle Years Academy and was known for his love of football, basketball, gaming on his PlayStation, and dancing with his mother.
In the aftermath of the shooting, anti-violence groups, including the Philadelphia Anti-Drug/Anti-Violence Network, canvassed the neighborhood, distributing flyers and urging the community to unite against the escalating gun violence affecting the city's youth.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with Anthony's death. The Philadelphia Police Department continues to investigate the case and urges anyone with information to come forward by contacting their tip line at 215-686-TIPS (8477).
