Jude Ernest Srock, a 46-year-old man from DuBois, Pennsylvania, tragically passed away on March 17, 2022. He was born on January 12, 1976, to John Raymond and Barbara Rosemarie Srock. Jude grew up in Reynoldsville and graduated from DuBois Area High School with the Class of 1994. He pursued post-secondary education at Triangle Tech, graduating in 2003 as an electrician. Jude was known for his love of hunting, golfing, and spending time with loved ones.
He was also a fan of Star Wars and the Philadelphia Eagles.
Jude's death was the result of a shooting incident in a parking lot on South Franklin Street in DuBois. The perpetrator, Glen "Chet" Chester Johnston, 61, of DuBois, was found guilty of third-degree murder, aggravated assault, simple assault, and recklessly endangering another person. Johnston shot Srock after discovering that Srock was having an affair with his wife. Johnston was sentenced to serve 20 to 40 years in state prison with 12 months’ consecutive probation and ordered to pay over $6,000 in restitution.
The case drew significant attention due to the emotional nature of the crime. Johnston never denied responsibility for Srock's death and cooperated with police, stating that the crime was "born out of emotion". The victim's mother described her son as someone with a dry sense of humor who loved to hunt and fish, and she emphasized the emotional impact of his loss on the family. The family sought justice rather than revenge, asking for the maximum sentence with no chance for parole.
The trial revealed that Johnston drove to the location, loaded a gun, and waited for Srock.
