On December 27, 2020, Quamir Tunnell, a 20-year-old Black male, was tragically shot and killed in Southwest Philadelphia. The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on the 6200 block of Elmwood Avenue. Quamir was found in front of a grocery store suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Despite being rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center by police, he succumbed to his injuries later that afternoon.
A second victim, a 34-year-old Black male, was also shot and found lying on the sidewalk. He was transported to the same hospital and is in critical condition but expected to survive. Witnesses reported hearing arguing just before the gunshots, and investigators found 14 spent shells at the scene. Surveillance footage from nearby businesses is being reviewed to aid the investigation.
As of now, no arrests have been made, but police have a description of a person of interest. Homicide detectives are actively interviewing witnesses and urging anyone with information to come forward. The investigation remains ongoing, and the Philadelphia Police Department continues to seek tips and leads to solve this case.
