In the early morning hours of Saturday, September 24, 2022, a distressing discovery was made in a Philadelphia neighborhood. At approximately 2:30 a.m., personnel from the Philadelphia Fire Rescue responded to a call on the 6300 block of Buist Avenue. There, they found Cecil Whaley, a 59-year-old Black male who resided on South Felton Street in Philadelphia.
Emergency medical personnel quickly transported Whaley to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.
Despite the efforts of the medical staff to save his life, he succumbed to his injuries the following day, on Sunday, September 25, 2022. The Office of the Medical Examiner later determined that the cause of death was strangulation, and his case was officially ruled a homicide.
As of now, the death of Cecil Whaley remains an unsolved case. The Philadelphia Police Department has not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with his murder. Detectives are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding his death and are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in the investigation. The case remains open, pending any new leads that may bring justice for Whaley and his loved ones.
