In the summer of 2022, Diniar Khawyne Camp, a 26-year-old male, returned to his native Philadelphia for a somber occasion. He had moved to Nevada to pursue a music career and to escape the very violence that had claimed the life of his close friend, Joelill Foy. Camp came home to mourn Foy, who had been shot and killed in late July. After attending the funeral services, Camp joined friends and family at a North Philadelphia hookah lounge.
In the early hours of August 6, 2022, Camp
offered to walk a young woman he knew home. As they approached her residence on the 1900 block of North 19th Street, they were ambushed. The woman's ex-boyfriend, Marcus Michael Whitehead, who was 22 at the time, emerged from a nearby truck wearing a ski mask and carrying a gun. In a fit of jealousy, Whitehead allegedly shot Camp multiple times. Although Camp was legally carrying a firearm, he was unable to defend himself. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Philadelphia police quickly identified Marcus Whitehead as the suspect and issued a warrant for his arrest on murder and weapons charges. For over a year, Whitehead remained a fugitive, his face appearing on a list of Philadelphia's most-wanted criminals. He was eventually apprehended in Maryland in the fall of 2025. In March of 2026, Whitehead, then 25, appeared in a Philadelphia courtroom for the first time, facing the charges for the murder of Diniar Camp. The woman who was with Camp the night he was killed testified in court, detailing how Whitehead had been sending her threatening messages and how the fatal encounter unfolded.
