Jack Lynn "Jackie" Myers, a 51-year-old male of Caucasian ethnicity, was tragically murdered on March 27, 2003, in Darke County, Ohio. He and his 55-year-old wife, Linda Myers, were shot to death at close range while they slept in their home. Their bodies were discovered the next morning by their great-grandson, 4-year-old Dameon Huffman, who ran to a nearby church to report that his grandparents "were melting".
The investigation into their deaths revealed that nothing of value was missing from the house, ruling out robbery as a motive. Detectives found a shoe print near a removed basement window and traces of blood in Dameon's bedroom, suggesting the killer had been there. A neighbor reported seeing an unfamiliar van in the area around the time of the murders.
Jack Myers had two sons from a previous marriage: Gregg Myers, 25, and Travis Myers, 28. Gregg had a contentious relationship with his father and was reportedly facing financial difficulties, including an impending eviction. A witness told police that Gregg had inquired about obtaining a shotgun to kill his father and stepmother. Further investigation revealed that Gregg had purchased shotgun ammunition two days before the murders. The murder weapon, a 12-gauge shotgun, was found discarded in the Stillwater River, along with a green tracksuit and shoes matching the print at the scene.
Gregg Myers was arrested and charged with the murders. During the trial in April 2004, the jury found him guilty on two counts of aggravated murder and sentenced him to life in prison without the possibility of parole. He also received an additional five-year sentence for aggravated burglary. Gregg Myers remains incarcerated at the Marion Correctional Institution in Ohio.
