On August 17, 2021, Jermale L. Payton, a 35-year-old Black male, was tragically shot and killed in Columbus, Ohio. The incident occurred around 1:15 a.m. at the Southpark Apartments in South Franklinton. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Payton lying in the street suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite life-saving efforts by the officers and paramedics, Payton was pronounced dead at Grant Medical Center at 1:51 a.m.
