In the fall of 2019, the life of 25-year-old Larry Keyondrae Jones was tragically cut short in a violent encounter. On the evening of November 6th, Jones was at a home on Milbrook Drive in Flint, Michigan, when the ex-boyfriend of the woman who lived there, Erick Thurman Scott Jr., forcibly entered the residence. Scott, who was 30 years old at the time, was reportedly driven by jealousy when he broke into his ex-girlfriend's home.
Armed with a gun, Scott first tried to break a window to
gain entry. When that failed, he forced his way through the front door. Once inside, he found Larry Jones. As Jones attempted to flee through the back of the house, Scott opened fire, shooting at him nine times. The multiple gunshot wounds proved to be fatal for Jones. The incident was described by prosecutors as a senseless act of violence fueled by irrational rage.
Following the shooting, Erick Thurman Scott Jr. was arrested and faced a litany of charges, including felony murder. The case against him proceeded to trial, where the prosecution presented evidence of the premeditated nature of the attack. The jury was convinced by the evidence and testimony, finding Scott guilty on all counts, which included the felony murder charge and nine other felonies related to the home invasion and shooting.
For his crimes, Erick Thurman Scott Jr. was sentenced to a mandatory life sentence in prison without the possibility of parole. The conviction and sentence brought a measure of legal closure to the case, ensuring that Scott would be held accountable for the death of Larry Keyondrae Jones.
