Kenneth William Shinafelt, a 31-year-old male of unspecified ethnicity, was tragically murdered on July 11, 2016, in Lorain, Ohio. He was found in the 2300 block of Reeves Avenue at around 11:50 p.m. Shinafelt succumbed to his injuries the following morning at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.
The investigation led police to identify 16-year-old Darius Ramey as the primary suspect. Ramey, a black male standing 6'1" tall and weighing 140 pounds, was considered armed and dangerous.
He was known to frequent the West Side of Lorain and the Lorain Metropolitan Housing Authority developments. Ramey turned himself in to the police on July 22, 2016, accompanied by his attorney.
In October 2016, Ramey was indicted on murder and felonious assault charges. The charges carried a three-year gun specification. The case was sent to the Lorain County grand jury for review, and Ramey faced the adult justice system. The bond set for Ramey was $250,000.
