Richard Latimer, a 34-year-old man from Howland, Ohio, tragically died on February 8, 2017. He was born on October 14, 1982, in Youngstown, Ohio, and was employed at 82 Auto Wrecking as a laborer. Richard was known for his love of Chevrolet Monte Carlos and his passion for the Cleveland Browns and Cavaliers. He was a loving father to his three daughters and son.

On the evening of February 7, 2017, Richard Latimer was involved in a domestic dispute with his wife, Candace Latimer, at their home on Mines Road. During this dispute, Richard allegedly shot and killed Van Blevins, 44, at Blevins' home in Weathersfield Township. Following the shooting, Richard attempted to kidnap his wife and their 9-year-old daughter, armed with a black handgun. Candace managed to escape with her daughter and contacted the police.

Police launched a manhunt for Richard Latimer, who was later found near the Giant Eagle on East Market Street in Howland. When confronted by police, Richard threatened to kill himself and was subsequently shot by officers. He died from multiple gunshot wounds at the hospital. The officers involved in the shooting were Howland Township Police Chief Nick Roberts and Assistant Chief Jeffrey Urso.

The incident led to investigations by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Mahoning County Coroner's Office. Richard's wife, Candace, was placed in protective custody along with their daughter. The case drew significant media attention and raised questions about police use of force and domestic violence.
