On January 1, 2024, 27-year-old Curtis James Long of Cincinnati, Ohio, was fatally shot in Mt. Healthy. The incident occurred around 6:08 p.m. in the 7600 block of Hamilton Avenue. Despite sustaining multiple gunshot wounds, Long managed to drive himself to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Following the shooting, authorities arrested 38-year-old Aaron McFarland in connection with Long's death.
McFarland was apprehended without incident near the 5200 block of Ebersole in Cincinnati. He was charged with aggravated murder and held on a $250,000 bond. According to the assistant prosecutor, McFarland allegedly lured Long to the scene and shot him multiple times in an "ambush-style" attack after an argument.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Long's death is ongoing. Authorities have urged anyone with information to contact the Mt. Healthy Police Department, the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, or Crime Stoppers. Community members are hopeful that justice will be served for Curtis Long and his family.
