Jacob's death was the result of a shooting incident that occurred on New York Avenue near
Logan Avenue on the North Side of Youngstown. According to eyewitness testimony, Jacob and Mehki Venable, a 20-year-old male, had agreed to a fistfight. However, during the altercation, Venable pulled out a gun and shot Jacob, who had dropped his own gun to fight. Venable then fled the scene, leaving Jacob mortally wounded. Jacob was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Following the incident, Mehki Venable was arrested and charged with the murder of Jacob Moore. The trial took place in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court, where Venable faced charges of murder with a firearm specification. During the trial, Venable claimed self-defense, but the jury ultimately rejected this claim and found him guilty of murder on April 19, 2024. Venable was sentenced to 23 years to life in prison, with additional time for firearm specifications.
