Cornell Kennedy Jr., an 18-year-old male from Youngstown, OH, tragically lost his life on June 18, 2021. Cornell, affectionately known as "C-Money," was a recent graduate of East High School and had just started his own real estate business, DMG Realty, as a birthday gift. He was passionate about football and played for the East High Golden Bears. Cornell was well-loved and had a close-knit family and a wide circle of friends.
Cornell was found shot to death around 7:15 p.m.
in front of a home in the 100 block of Seneca Street on the North Side of Youngstown. The Mahoning County Coroner’s Office confirmed his death, and police believe it was linked to two arson incidents on the west side of the city, one occurring a couple of days before his death and another less than 48 hours after. The crime scene had 83 evidence markers, indicating a complex investigation.
In connection with Cornell's death, a 19-year-old Youngstown man, Eddie Bryant Jr., was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter and having weapons under a disability. Bryant was booked into the Mahoning County jail on March 27, 2022. The investigation revealed that Bryant was involved in the fatal shooting, and he faced legal proceedings for his role in Cornell's death.
Cornell's death was one of 15 homicides in Youngstown for the year 2021, highlighting the city's struggle with violent crime. The community mourned the loss of a young man with a bright future and a strong passion for his interests and loved ones.
