In the summer of 2012, a visit home to Detroit for Father’s Day ended in tragedy for 30-year-old Randolph Ramon Miggins. A former resident who had relocated to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Miggins was out at Mai Tai's, a nightclub on 8 Mile Road, in the early morning hours of Monday, June 18th. An altercation that began inside the bar spilled out into the exterior as people were leaving, erupting in gunfire shortly before 2 a.m.
In the chaos, Miggins was fatally wounded, and two other individuals, a 25-year-old woman and a 39-year-old man, also sustained non-fatal injuries.
The aftermath of the shooting left a scene of confusion and heartbreak. Randolph Miggins' mother, Janice, who was at work when she received the devastating news, described her son as her only child. She made a public plea for the person responsible to come forward. The case has grown cold over the years, leaving his family still searching for answers and justice for his untimely death.
