In the winter of 2016, the life of 29-year-old Rachel Leigh Pool was tragically cut short in Memphis, Tennessee. On January 21st of that year, the young Caucasian mother was found deceased from gunshot wounds. The events leading to her death would soon become the focus of a complex domestic violence investigation.
At the time of her death, Rachel was living with her boyfriend, Donald Dodd.
Initially, Dodd presented a shocking and tragic narrative to investigators, claiming that Rachel had accidentally shot herself. However, as the investigation progressed, his account of the events began to unravel. He later amended his story, stating that the gun had discharged accidentally as he was trying to take it from her.
The inconsistencies in Dodd's statements were further brought into question by the findings of the medical examiner. An autopsy revealed that Rachel had been shot not once, but twice. She had sustained gunshot wounds to her head and her left shoulder, findings that the medical examiner determined were not self-inflicted.
