Shelbie Marie Jackson, a 37-year-old woman, was tragically killed in a shooting outside her home in the Hickory Hill neighborhood of Memphis, Tennessee, in the pre-dawn hours of March 13, 2024. A mother to a 14-year-old daughter, she was returning from work when she was ambushed in her front yard on Sunnyslope Drive.
Her brother, who was inside their shared home at the time, was startled by the sound of gunshots, one of which shattered a window in the residence.
He discovered his sister's body moments later. Family members, including her aunt who had raised her from the age of 13 after the early death of her own mother, were left devastated by the sudden and violent loss. They remembered her as a beautiful spirit who was preparing to celebrate her birthday the following week.
In the immediate aftermath, investigators canvassed the neighborhood, and family members provided them with home surveillance footage that captured the attack. Her brother expressed his belief that the shooting was a targeted act and voiced his hope for a swift arrest. He described the suspect as a man who pulled up in a car, opened fire, and then fled the scene. He also indicated his belief that his sister knew her assailant.
While police have not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the murder of Shelbie Marie Jackson, her family believes they know who is responsible. Prior to her death, Jackson had reportedly made a social media post expressing fear of an ex-boyfriend, alleging he had threatened her. The investigation into her death remains ongoing.
