In the winter of 2024, the life of a young Memphis man, Marqulo D. Mason Jr., was tragically cut short at the age of 19. On the evening of February 13th, in the 2000 block of Philsar Street, Mason was robbed and fatally shot. The incident prompted an investigation by the Memphis Police Department, who were initially searching for two men in connection with the deadly robbery.
The weeks following the shooting were filled with uncertainty as the search for those responsible continued.
Less than two weeks after the incident, on February 26, 2024, a juvenile petition was issued for the arrest of a suspect. The charges sought were grave, including First Degree Murder, Especially Aggravated Robbery, and Aggravated Assault. The case drew the attention of the U.S. Marshals Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force, a multi-agency team dedicated to apprehending violent fugitives.
A break in the case came on May 2, 2024. Acting on the juvenile petition, U.S. Marshals, with assistance from the Memphis Police Department and the Shelby County Sheriff's Office Fugitive Apprehension Team, located the alleged killer. At a residence on the 1400 block of Roberts Road in Memphis, a 17-year-old male juvenile was taken into custody without incident around 10:30 in the morning. The arrest marked a significant development in the investigation into the murder of Marqulo Mason.
