In the early morning hours of June 14, 1971, a horrific scene unfolded inside a house on Hazelwood Street in Detroit, Michigan, in what would become known as the city's largest mass murder. Robert Gardner, a 28-year-old African-American man, was the primary target of a violent attack that left eight people dead. The assailants, who investigators believe were seeking retaliation against Gardner, entered the residence shortly before 4:30 a.m. and opened fire.
