Derjuan Elston "PeeWee" Gambrell, a 27-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on July 4, 2019, in Toledo, Ohio. He was a former standout football player at Rogers High School and briefly played for Ohio State University. On that fateful day, Gambrell was shot in the abdomen after an argument with Timothy Simmons, the brother of Gambrell's girlfriend. Witnesses reported that Simmons shot Gambrell and then fled the scene.
Shortly after the incident, Simmons called 911 and admitted to the shooting, claiming it was in response to recent domestic violence charges.
