Valjon Foster II, a 19-year-old African American male from Toledo, Ohio, tragically lost his life on January 19, 2019. He was a student at the University of Toledo, majoring in civil engineering, and had just completed his first semester with all A's. Valjon was also employed at Bob Evans and was known for his dedication to his studies and his love for his family and girlfriend.
On the night of his death, Valjon and his girlfriend, Diamond Dickey, were dropping off friends in the 1900
block of Talbot Street when an argument broke out between them and another group of people. After the argument, as they were getting back into their car, Valjon was shot. Despite Diamond's efforts to help him, Valjon was too heavy to move and was taken to ProMedica Toledo Hospital, where he later died.
Toledo police filed an arrest warrant in juvenile court for 16-year-old Antonio Jones, who was charged with murder in connection with Valjon's death. The investigation revealed that Antonio Jones was involved in the shooting, and he was taken into custody.
Valjon's death was a devastating loss for his family, friends, and the community. He was remembered as a humble, smart, and loving young man with a "heart of gold". His parents, Deanna Hayes-Foster and Valjon Foster, along with his siblings and friends, continue to cherish his memory and honor his legacy.
